MoDOT KC Shows Its Giving Spirit at Annual Blood Drive

The giving spirit of MoDOT KC continues to shine through as the holiday season gets underway. 

Staff members at the District Office donated much-needed blood Thursday, Nov. 29 in room 136.

According to blood drive cooridinator Lori Bronson, 46 donors took part with a few others being deferred. 

Blood donations comes at a critical time of the year. 

With many people taking holiday vacations or being caught up in the excitement of the festivities, donations typically go down. 

However, the need for blood always remains high. As we all know, medical emergencies and health issues don't take a break.

Bronson says officials at the Community Blood Center must collect almost 600 units of blood daily to meet the needs of area hospitals and patients. 

There is no substitute for blood so donors are the ones who supply the life-saving blood and blood components to hospitals in Kansas and Missouri.

A big draw for this season's drive, donors received a free Kansas City Chiefs t-shirt!

You should have received an e-mail from Governor Parson’s office with a link to an online employee survey asking your thoughts about our department’s operations. The survey, called The Pulse, is a follow-up to last summer’s organizational assessment and is intended to show us what we’re doing right, where we need improvement and where we are in addressing the feedback received in last year’s survey.

A link to the Pulse survey, which should take about five minutes to complete, is below. Supervisors are asked to share this information with employees who do not have ready access to a computer so they can use the computers available at all of our facilities to complete the survey. Employees may be allowed time during work hours to complete the survey.  The deadline is December 12.

U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Makes Another Appearance at MoDOT KC

For the second year in a row, the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree has spent an evening at MoDOT Kansas City's general services building.

The tree came from Willamette National Forest in Oregon and is traveling a 3,000 mile journey following a reverse path of the Oregon Trail. The cross-country tour of the 70 foot tall tree makes 25 appearances in different communities along the way to U.S. Capitol. The Kansas City area is fortunate enough to see two of those events.

The first event was held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Union Station in Kansas City. The tree then spent the evening at MoDOT KC before making its way to Uptown Market in Independence, MO. The tree is followed by U.S. forest services and law enforcement as it travels.

Many MoDOT KC employees stepped outside to see the impressive site on Wednesday, Nov. 21!

Chiefs Fans Can Receive Free T-Shirt at Annual MoDOT KC Blood Drive

Right now, the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the hottest teams in the NFL. 

Because of their success, the sale of team jerseys and other team wear are flying off the shelves.

Coming up soon, you can get your hands on a "free" Chiefs t-shirt by simply rolling up your sleeve.

MoDOT KC will host its annual holiday blood drive on Thursday, Nov. 29 in conference room 136 of the District Office.

The blood drive will be from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. T-shirts are in limited supply, so you better get there early. 

Your donation is so very important this time of year. 

Travelling increases over the holidays and that’s when traffic accidents tend to go up and so does the need for blood donations.    

The overall need for blood donations is crucial for the survival for many people whether they’re in a vehicle accident or battling an ailment such as cancer. 

Blood drives here at MoDOT’s Kansas City District Office are rotated between the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City and the American Red Cross. 

MoDOT Salutes Veteran Employees with Trip to the WWI Museum (Photo Gallery)

Kansas City MoDOT veterans had the opportunity to visit the World War II Liberty Memorial on Friday, Nov. 9, as part of a special event to honor their service to our country. This is the fifth annual event for KC veterans where district staff has worked to honor and celebrate the sacrifice these brave men and women make for all of us.

Although not all MoDOT veterans could attend, 22 were able to spend a couple of hours touring the memorial with members of the senior management team.
