Something simple, yet amazing is happening just outside the main doors of the District Office.If you look closely, you'll spy with your eyes some very interesting rocks nestled among the thousands of other rocks situated in the memorial garden.
There are dozens of brightly colored painted rocks.
You'll find everything from a stop sign, to ghosts, goblins and happy-faces with googly eyes.
This is the handy work of three kids belonging to District Construction and Materials Engineer Brian Burger.
Burger says he recently asked his kids if they wanted to paint some rocks and of course they gleefully said yes.After they completed their artwork, Jackson, Macklyn, Macradee and Burger thought it would be cool to add their rocks to the memorial garden since there were a few already planted there.
If you're wondering why paint rocks, you're not alone. It's a phenomenon that seems to be sweeping across the nation and the globe.
The idea came about when a group of people simply just wanted to help create more kindness and cultivate passion throughout the world.
With just a single stone on a beach on Cape Cod, the Kindness Rocks Project was created. The prime focus of the group is that one message at the right time at the right moment can change someone's day, their outlook and their whole life.
In recent years, this craze has grown. In just Raytown alone, there are over 4,300 people who take part in the Kindness Rocks Project. In Lee's Summit, more than 2,000 are associated with the group. There's even a Facebook page dedicated to the project.
There aren't many rules surrounding the Kindness Rocks Project. Organizers require that all messages are kind and the artwork is child appropriate.
